MOSCOW, December 18 Olympic champion in ice dancing Roman Kostomarov said that together with Tatyana Navka he had great pleasure while performing the free program “Carmen”, with which they won gold at the Turin Olympics almost 18 years ago.
On Sunday, Kostomarov appeared on the ice in public for the first time on skates in the show “Together and Forever”, dedicated to the 50th anniversary of Ilya Averbukh. First, he skated a number together with his wife Oksana Domnina, and then performed the “Carmen” program with Navka.
““Yes, we did it. After 18 years, despite any difficulties, we, together with Tatyana Navka, went out on the ice again and had a blast. Our “Carmen” is with us forever! Thanks to everyone,” Kostomarov wrote in his Telegram channel.
Kostomarov was admitted to intensive care with pneumonia on January 10, 2023 and spent 175 days in the clinic. Due to the necrosis that developed, he underwent several amputations of his arms and legs. Later, he began to publish videos of training after prosthetics. In August, Kostomarov made his first public appearance in Averbukh’s show “Letters of Love” in Sochi, appearing on the ice in sneakers in a joint performance with Domnina. In December, Kostomarov published a video of himself skating on the ice for the first time since illness.
