A court in Moscow sentenced activist Alena Krylova to 2 years in prison in the “Left Resistance” case

The Meshchansky District Court of Moscow sentenced Alena Krylova, a defendant in the “Left Resistance” case, to two years in a general regime colony, reports the press service of the capital’s courts of general jurisdiction.

The court found Krylova guilty under the article on participation in an “extremist » community (Part 2 of Article 281.1 of the Criminal Code). She was also sentenced to six months of restricted freedom.

Krylova, a former employee of the human rights movement “For Human Rights,” was detained in Kyrgyzstan in June 2023 and placed in pre-trial detention center No. 1 in Bishkek — Russia demanded her extradition.

In 2021, the FSB department for Moscow and the Moscow region opened a case against activist Daria Polyudova for creating an extremist community because of her Left Resistance movement (Part 1 of Article 282.1 of the Criminal Code). In November of the same year, Krylova was added to the register of “terrorists and extremists.”

According to the FSB, Polyudova created “Left Resistance” for “public calls for extremist activities,” and the rest of the defendants led a group on VKontakte, “carried out ideological propaganda” and “organized rallies, marches and pickets aimed at discrediting authorities and provoking clashes with police officers.»

In June, Kyrgyzstan also detained Lev Skoryakin, an activist of the “Left Bloc”, who was involved in the “Happy ChKist Day” action from Moscow. He was taken to the building of the State Committee for National Security in Bishkek. In February, the Gagarinsky District Court of Moscow arrested Skoryakin in absentia, and in April he was put on the wanted list.

The human rights group Memorial declared the case against the Left Resistance a political one. In 2022, a court in Moscow sentenced Polyudova to nine years in prison. Memorial recognized the activist and other defendants as political prisoners.
