A court in Tatarstan sentenced ten months of correctional labor to a 52-year-old resident of Zelenodolsk, who burned metal wires on the Eternal Flame, reports the department of the Investigative Committee for the republic.
A Tatarstan resident was convicted under the article on the rehabilitation of Nazism. He was found guilty of desecration of symbols of military glory (Part 3 of Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code). As the Investigative Committee previously reported, he admitted his guilt in full.
According to the investigation, on July 30, 2023, a drunk man came to Victory Park in Zelenodolsk and began to burn wires on the Eternal Flame in order to later sell them for scrap. The security guard reprimanded him, and the park visitor left. However, he soon returned and continued to burn wires, the Investigative Committee said.
