The German Prosecutor General's Office filed a lawsuit with the Higher Regional Court of Frankfurt am Main demanding the confiscation of the assets of a “Russian financial institution” worth more than 720 million euros. This was reported on the website of the German department.
The lawsuit was filed on July 7, but it became known only now. The prosecutor's office claims that the defendant violated German foreign trade law. The publication Spiegel clarifies that we are talking about a subsidiary of the Moscow Stock Exchange.
According to the German authorities, after the introduction of sanctions, representatives of the institution tried to withdraw more than 720 million euros from its account in the American bank JP Morgan, but the latter did not fulfill the order.
Spiegel writes that this is the first time that they are trying to seize Russian assets in Germany. The funds are planned to be transferred to the state budget.
