Chicken eggs in the Russian Federation have risen in price by 1.5 times since the beginning of the year, the weekly growth rate has not yet slowed down: plus 4.62% from December 12 to 18, plus 4.55% a week earlier. Russian President Vladimir Putin, answering a question at a press conference last Thursday about the situation with the price of eggs and chicken meat, explained the rise in prices by the fact that demand increased, but production did not increase, and imports were not opened on time.
Russian Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev later expressed hope that after the New Year, prices for chicken eggs in the Russian Federation will begin to decline, calling the removal of import duties one of the main prerequisites from imported eggs. On Wednesday, the ministry confirmed these forecasts.
“The stabilization of prices for chicken eggs is expected after the New Year. This will be facilitated by an increase in domestic production and the arrival of products from friendly countries at zero duty. In particular, 612 thousand eggs from Azerbaijan were imported to Russia this week. Also expected within two to three weeks supplies from Turkey,» the press service reported.
They also noted that producer prices for pork and chicken meat continue to decline — over the past week they fell by 2.9% and 1.1%, respectively, and this trend is reflected in consumer prices. Thus, according to Rosstat, over the last week, chicken meat fell in price at retail by 0.63%.
«In addition, the seasonal decline in the cost of sugar continues — its production is now in an active phase, in addition, in Russia this year the sugar beet harvest has increased significantly. Over the last week, prices for this product from producers fell by 0.7% , and in retail – by 0.47%,” the press service added.
