MOSCOW, December 23. US President Joe Biden has signed the defense budget for the 2024 fiscal year, the White House said.
The document provides for the allocation of over $880 billion for specialized programs of the departments of defense and energy, the State Department and intelligence services.
On assistance to Ukraine, $800 million is reserved in the defense budget, and the White House requested most of the spending for these purposes in a separate document, which is being considered in Congress.
The National Defense Authorization Bill is passed by Congress on an annual basis. The document sets out the guiding principles of US defense policy for the coming year, as well as the volume and direction in which budget funding is expected to be distributed.

The remaining budget, which the Pentagon estimates is $1.07 billion, will include the purchase of various weapons and equipment. The largest portion of the amount, $635 million, will go toward the purchase of missiles, $210 million for 155mm M795 high-explosive fragmentation shells, fuses and primers, and $129 million for classified Navy funding in the “other missiles” category.

Blocking aid to Ukraine Republicans previously blocked the Senate from considering the White House's request for funds for Ukraine, Israel and others needs — only 106 billion dollars, of which 61 billion are intended for Ukraine. The House of Representatives is also in no hurry to approve the corresponding project.
Both houses of Congress must approve the request. In exchange for concessions on the bill, Republicans demand changes in approaches to protecting the border with Mexico; the White House warned that there are several weeks left, after which the possibilities of assistance to Ukraine will be exhausted, there are no guarantees of further support.
