MOSCOW, December 23 Ukrainian troops fired 28 shells at Donetsk, Gorlovka and Makeyevka in an hour and a half, the DPR representative office in the Joint Center for Control and Coordination reports in the Telegram channel issues related to war crimes of Ukraine (JCCC).
“Shelling was recorded from the side of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (Ukrainian Armed Forces — ed.) in the direction: 10.55 — the settlement of Dzerzhinsk — the settlement of Gorlovka: (Nikitovsky district): 3 shells of 155 mm caliber were fired… 11.10 — the settlement of Shcherbinovka — the settlement of Gorlovka (Nikitovsky area): 3 shells of 155 mm caliber were fired,” the representative office reports.
It is noted that at 11.25 and 12.25 Ukrainian troops fired six more 155 mm caliber shells at Donetsk, at 11.35, 11.40, 11.55 and 12.25 — 13 caliber shells 155 millimeters, including three cassette shells, on Gorlovka and at 11.55 — three 155 millimeter shells on Makeyevka.
Gorlovka is located 50 kilometers north of Donetsk, the city is home to the Stirol chemical concern and coal mining enterprises. This is one of the largest populated areas of the DPR; before the start of the conflict in Donbass, the population of Gorlovka numbered more than 250 thousand people.
Makeevka is a satellite city of Donetsk, adjacent to it from the northeast. In 2014, the population of Makeyevka numbered about 350 thousand people.
155mm artillery is used by NATO countries. The United States supplied Ukraine with long-range howitzers M777 of 155 mm caliber, Ukrainian troops are actively using them to shell the cities of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics. Also, the Ukrainian troops were supplied with German PzH 2000 self-propelled artillery mounts, Polish Krab self-propelled guns and French CAESAR self-propelled guns using shells of this caliber.
