MOSCOW, December 25 The Presnensky Court in Moscow received a request from an investigator to place Alexey Varankin in custody in the case of the murder of two women, said court spokeswoman Lela Kokaya.
«The court received material regarding the selection of a preventive measure in the form of detention in relation to Alexey Andreevich Varankin, accused of committing a crime under Part 1 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (murder — ed.), for a period until February 24 2024,” said the agency’s interlocutor.
According to reports from the Investigative Committee and the prosecutor's office, on December 22, a 37-year-old man stabbed to death a woman he had met several weeks ago during an argument in a hotel in eastern Moscow. And on the night of December 23, in an apartment on Mukomolny Proezd, he stabbed to death a 25-year-old girl who, while defending herself, wounded him. The man was hospitalized and confessed to both murders.
As a source previously reported, the deceased made money by providing intimate services. The accused himself was sent to compulsory treatment for the murder of two other women in 2010.
