Serial production of electronic stability control systems started at the enterprise of the Kostroma company Itelma.
Last year The Russian auto industry had to face problems due to the refusal of a number of foreign companies to continue doing business here. As a result, many local factories had to go into downtime, because they could not continue to produce cars that met the requirements in force at that time. The authorities made the decision to soften these standards in May 2022, when so-called “simplified” cars began rolling off the assembly lines of Russian factories.
According to the decision of the Russian government, adopted at the beginning of June 2023, the “pre-crisis”, that is, the full version of the technical regulations in the automotive industry, is now gradually returning. It is assumed that all requirements must return to the previous version of the document before February 1, 2024. Accordingly, all local automakers will have to comply with it.

The list of requirements for manufactured cars that were allowed to be “ignored” included an anti-lock braking system (ABS) and an electronic stability control system (ESC/ESP). According to the plan, by the end of this year they will again become mandatory for all new cars entering the Russian market.
In July, local production of ABS systems started, production was launched in Kostroma, on a new line of the Itelma research and production enterprise. As it became known earlier, for this purpose the company built a workshop with a fully automated production line. By the way, it was previously reported that at the same time, in the summer, the production of electronic stability control systems started, but this is not so.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, serial production of ESC systems for passenger cars started today at the same enterprise of the Itelma company in Kostroma. According to Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Vasily Shpak, the total production volume of ABS and ESC blocks will be 750 thousand units. in year. In addition, he noted that in the future production can be increased to 1.2 million units. per year (in case of increased demand for these systems.
