The 2nd Western District Military Court sentenced a 30-year-old resident of the Ivanovo region to six years in prison in the case of preparing to set fire to a military registration and enlistment office. TASS and State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company Ivteleradio reported this with reference to the FSB.
The convict will spend the first two years of his sentence in prison, the rest of the term in a maximum security colony. He was found guilty of preparing for a terrorist attack (Part 1 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code with the use of Part 1 of Article 30 of the Criminal Code). According to investigators, the man was looking for accomplices to set fire to the military registration and enlistment office in Ivanovo; he was later detained by FSB officers.
As Mediazona found out, the convicted person’s name is Danila Demchenko — on October 5, the 2nd Western District Military Court convicted him under the same articles. On December 21, the Military Court of Appeal upheld the decision in the criminal case.
In June, Demchenko’s defense tried to appeal the decision to extend his preventive measure in the Ivanovo Regional Court. According to the resolution, the person involved in the case was detained on December 15, 2022, two days later the Oktyabrsky District Court of Ivanovo placed him in a pre-trial detention center.
The document mentions that Demchenko is accused of “searching for accomplices in the period from October 21 to December 15, 2022 <…> to commit arson, frightening the population and creating the danger of death, causing significant property damage in order to destabilize the activities of government bodies.»
Demchenko is included in the list of “extremists and terrorists” of Rosfinmonitoring with the mark «asterisk» was introduced at the end of December 2022. According to information from the list, he was born in 1993 in the Chelyabinsk region.
