Argentina's president vows to call a referendum if his reforms are rejected

BUENOS AIRES, December 27 Argentine President Javier Miley will issue to the judgment of citizens on his radical reforms if parliament votes against them, follows from his words in an interview with the newspaper La Nación.
““If they refuse me, I will call a referendum,” he said.
Previously, Miley signed an emergency decree on more than 300 reforms to liberalize the economy, they affect all areas. In particular, the decree includes the abolition of the current law on rental housing, which both tenants and landlords were dissatisfied with, and the abolition of price regulation, which was practiced by the previous government, setting a price ceiling for sensitive goods. The decree also provides for the reform of contributions to the healthcare system and opens the way for the privatization of state-owned companies.

The decree comes into force a few days after signing, but must be simultaneously considered by parliament, which can veto it. If this happens, it will be the first time that deputies and senators reject an emergency decree. While parliament is considering the decree, it is in effect.

Starting December 26, the Congress and the Chamber of Deputies, according to the order of the President, begin work on considering his reforms.
