ANKARA, January 5 The volume and dates of supplies of Turkish eggs are determined by Russia, Turkey is ready to meet the needs, there are no problems with negotiations on this issue, said the head of the Turkish Union of Egg Producers Ibrahim Afyon.
The first batch of food eggs from Turkey arrived in Russia on January 3. During the period from January 1 to June 30, 2024, the Cabinet of Ministers of the Russian Federation allowed the import of up to 1.2 billion chicken eggs into the country duty-free.
“I cannot name the exact volumes of our supplies, since they depend on the needs. The supplies were discussed for six months, in the volume that the receiving party wishes. We are ready to meet the needs in the desired volumes,” the agency’s interlocutor said.
According to him, there are no problematic issues in the negotiation process on the supply of eggs to Russia. “There are no problems, the process is ongoing. Delivery dates are determined by the receiving party,” he said.
Chicken eggs in the Russian Federation have risen in price by about 1.5 times since the beginning of 2023; the weekly growth rate began to slow down only at the end of December. Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a press conference, explained the rise in prices by saying that demand increased, but production did not increase, and imports were not opened on time. Later, the Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Patrushev, announced expectations for stabilization of prices for chicken eggs after the New Year — due to the growth of domestic production and imports from friendly countries, including at zero duty.
