Head of the State Duma Defense Committee Andrei Kartapolov said that the ongoing recruitment of contract military personnel into the Russian Armed Forces is in no way connected with past mobilization events. According to the deputy, an increase in the number of contract soldiers is not a basis for terminating the service of those mobilized. The statements were made in an interview with Fontanka.

During the interview, Kartapolov was reminded that, according to the Ministry of Defense, last year 410 thousand people were accepted for contracts, and by the end of this year the number of contract soldiers is planned to increase to 745 thousand people. In this regard, the question was asked whether this is a basis for “dissolving those 300 thousand who were mobilized.”

“There is no need to disband anyone,” Kartapolov answered.

< p>He recalled that in 1941 Moscow was largely defended by militias, and also suggested imagining a situation in which in 1943 Joseph Stalin would be asked to demobilize those who had fought since the beginning of the Second World War.

«After all, this does not occur to anyone in the head,» Kartapolov said. «But today this is being thrown in by our enemies.»

Kartapolov expressed confidence that the Russians mobilized in 2022 have over the past period of time become professionals who cannot be replaced by new untrained people. The deputy believes that “this is exactly what our enemies want.” At the same time, he emphasized that citizens performing combat missions “receive the necessary social benefits.”

“There is simply no more protected person today,” the deputy added, “than one who was mobilized and his family.”

Kartapolov thanked the military personnel for doing this work and wished them health.

Also in the interview, the head of the defense committee emphasized that “there is no need for general mobilization today.” And among other things, Kartapolov expressed the opinion that since the beginning of the Northern Military District, “people began to understand more deeply the essence of what was happening” and united around the Supreme Commander-in-Chief.
