TBILISI, January 11 The Patriarchate of Georgia considers it necessary to rewrite the information stored in Tbilisi Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, the icon of the Matrona of Moscow, which depicts Joseph Stalin. This was reported on the website.
Earlier, video footage was distributed on social networks that an icon of the Matrona of Moscow with Stalin was hung in the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Tbilisi. Social media users began expressing their concerns about this in the comments. Later, a photograph of this icon, which was doused with blue paint, appeared on social networks. The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs opened a case of vandalism.
«»Since Stalin's meeting with Saint Matrona, due to insufficient evidence, is not included in the canonical text of her life and is not recognized by the Russian Orthodox Church… it is necessary to change the mentioned episode and take into account other details related to icon painting. We urge those who donated the icon to contribute appropriate changes ourselves, or we will do it,” says the statement of the Georgian Patriarchate.
