64-year-old Igor Baryshnikov, convicted of military “fakes,” who was not provided with medical care in the penitentiary, was sent to a prison hospital

Igor Baryshnikov, a resident of the Kaliningrad region, convicted in the case of military “fakes”, who was not provided with medical care in the colony, was sent to a prison hospital. His lawyer Maria Bontzler reported this to OVD-Info.

Even during the trial, Baryshnikov’s attending physician said that he might not survive his imprisonment: due to problems with urination, the 64-year-old man uses an epicystostomy — a special catheter for urine removal. During one of the meetings with lawyers, due to pain in the groin, Baryshnikov could not sit for two hours, and he was not given painkillers.

In addition, the convict is suspected of prostate cancer. While in the colony he developed nail fungus.

As Bonzler said, after a public campaign, thanks to which more than six thousand appeals were sent to the FSIN, Baryshnikov was sent to the prison hospital, where his epiostoma was changed. Next, the man is going to be taken to a civilian medical facility where he will undergo a biopsy.

According to the lawyer, Baryshnikov is in the IK-8 detachment of the Kaliningrad region on preferential terms; they began to treat him for a fungus that had formed on his fingers.

At the same time, Baryshnikov now has to sleep at a temperature of 15 degrees, and the medications prescribed at the end of December, according to his defense attorneys, were not given to him as of January 10. “Although the epicystostomy has been replaced, it is installed in such a way that it continues to cause inconvenience: Baryshnikov has to get up at night to change his underwear,” the lawyer said.

The court in Sovetsk on July 22 sentenced Baryshnikov to seven and a half years in prison in the case about the dissemination of “fakes” about the army motivated by political hatred (clause “d” of part 2 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code) due to posts about the war in Ukraine.

After the verdict was announced, the man was arrested in the courtroom. Before that, he was under recognizance not to leave the place and was caring for his paralyzed 96-year-old mother. She was later handed over to the guardianship authorities, and on August 7 the woman died. Baryshnikov was not released from the pre-trial detention center for her funeral.
