Germany considers airstrikes against the Houthis to be in accordance with the UN Charter

MOSCOW, January 12 US and British strikes on Houthi positions — the Iran-backed Shiite movement that rules northern and central Yemen are in line with the UN Charter and are aimed at preventing attacks in the Red Sea, the German Foreign Ministry said.
«The response of our partners, the United States and Britain, was aimed at the Houthi military infrastructure to prevent further attacks, and is consistent with the UN Charter. Our goal remains to reduce tensions and restore stability in the Red Sea,» the ministry said in a post on social media X

It is emphasized that the Houthis have been attacking commercial and military ships in the Red Sea for several weeks and taking crew members hostage.

Earlier, Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin announced the launch of the multinational Operation Guardian of Prosperity to protect the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden amid attacks by Yemen's Houthi rebels on merchant ships.
On Friday night, the United States and Britain carried out 23 airstrikes on targets in four provinces in different parts of Yemen, including the capital Sanaa, Hodeidah, Taiz and Saada, local government sources said. US President Joe Biden called the strikes a response to a threat to freedom of navigation, promising to continue to act without hesitation.
Member of the highest political council of the Shiite Ansar Allah movement (Houthis) ruling in the north and central part of Yemen and supported by Iran, Muhammad Ali al-Houthi noted on the social network X that the airstrikes of the United States and Great Britain on Yemen are terrorist barbarism and deliberate and unjustified aggression.
