YEKATERINBURG, January 12 Deputy Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region Alexey Shmykov found eggs in Yekaterinburg in a store at a poultry farm for 70 rubles per dozen.
«»Once again I checked the availability and cost of poultry meat and chicken eggs on the shelves of the city's stores. This time — in the company store of the Sverdlovsk poultry farm… For example, in the chain of stores «Ptitsa» a chicken egg of the first category can be bought for 70 rubles, and A kilogram of poultry meat costs 205 rubles,” Shmykov wrote in his Telegram channel.

Judging by the video that accompanies the official’s message, 70 rubles is the price for a dozen eggs. “The proximity of production means freshness of products and reduced delivery times to stores. In addition, this is an opportunity to reduce the cost of transport logistics, which is also included in the cost of production,” noted the deputy governor.

In mid-December 2023, Shmykov went to chain stores in Yekaterinburg, where the products of a local poultry farm are sold, where he found a dozen eggs for 80 and 100 rubles. Then he emphasized that the price of eggs was affected by problems with veterinary drugs, rising prices for animal feed, and increased transportation costs.

Chicken eggs in the Russian Federation have risen in price by about 1.5 times since the beginning of 2023; the weekly growth rate began to slow down only at the end of December. Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a press conference, explained the rise in prices by saying that demand increased, but production did not increase, and imports were not opened on time.
Later, Russian Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev said that after the New Year, egg prices are expected to stabilize due to the growth of domestic production and imports from friendly countries, including at zero duty. On Wednesday, the Ministry of Agriculture confirmed these expectations: in the near future, the department expects a reduction in prices for chicken eggs in retail trade.
