Magma from a volcano on the Reykjanes Peninsula in southwestern Iceland reached one of the oldest cities in the country, Grindavik, which was founded back in 934. The city is known as a major esoteric center of sun worshipers and numerous tourists flocked here, especially from Japan and Korea.
As reported by local media, magma has already consumed three houses. The mayor of the city, Fannar Jonasson, also reported a crack that had formed, which is about a kilometer long and tends to expand. In this regard, an evacuation has been announced in Grindavik.
The representative of the Icelandic civil defense forces, Vidir Reynisson, in turn, said that rescuers are working without interruption.
