Reuters: The Houthi group operating in Yemen mistakenly attacked a Russian oil tanker

The Houthi group, which controls northwestern Yemen, mistakenly attacked a Russian oil tanker. Reuters reports this with reference to a report by the British maritime security company Ambrey.

Presumably, the missile attack occurred on January 12, 90 nautical miles southeast of the port city of Aden. The report said the projectile landed in the water and no one was injured as a result of the impact. The tanker, which Ambrey said was flying the Panama flag, was also undamaged.

The report states that this is the second Houthi attack on Russian ships carrying oil. The details of the first such case are unknown.

The Houthis are an armed group representing Yemen's Shiite minority and backed by Iran. Since December they have been attacking commercial ships in the Red Sea with missiles and drones. On the night of January 12, the United States and Great Britain attacked Houthi military targets from the air. Russia condemned these strikes.
