WASHINGTON, January 13The US House of Representatives on Friday passed a bill that obliges the US Treasury Secretary to support investments in projects aimed at reducing the dependence of countries around the world on Russian agricultural goods.
The document entitled “No Russian Agricultural Products” was adopted based on voting results, according to a statement by the Chamber’s Financial Services Committee.
“The bill requires the Secretary of the Treasury to instruct the executive directors of the United States at international financial institutions to advocate for investment in projects that reduce dependence on Russian agricultural goods,” the text of the document says.
In particular, we are talking about grain and fertilizers, and concerns not only the consumption of Russian agricultural products in the United States, but also in other countries.
«The world cannot rely on Russia or other adversaries in any way, but especially to get the food we need. This legislation reduces our dependence on Russian farmers and puts the focus back on supporting American farmers,» said one co-authors of the bill, Congressman Zach Nunn, who presented the document back in July 2023 along with his colleague, Congresswoman Maxine Waters.
