The Kurgan Regional Court sentenced a student to five years in prison on charges of collaborating with Ukrainian intelligence services. RIA Novosti writes about this with reference to the FSB press service.
The young man was found guilty of “collaborating on a confidential basis” with a foreign organization (Article 275.1 of the Criminal Code). According to the court file, the verdict was handed down on November 16.
According to Mediazona, the sentenced man’s name is Maxim Kharitonov, he is 20 years old. In mid-October, the FSB reported on his detention.
According to the prosecution, in March the young man corresponded with representatives of an unnamed Ukrainian organization banned in Russia, and received from them “instructions for carrying out sabotage and subversive work.” In particular, the security forces believe that they asked the Kurgan man to distribute “pro-Ukrainian materials” and collect addresses of military units, military registration and enlistment offices, units of the FSB, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Russian Guard.
As the FSB said, after the arrest the young man confessed. The article that Kharitonov was charged with was introduced into the Criminal Code in 2022.
