The Investigative Committee proposed to develop a mechanism for seizing assets stolen in Russia

MOSCOW, January 15 The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation proposes to develop a mechanism for the seizure of stolen assets abroad after the end of the investigation, said the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Alexander Bastrykin .
Bastrykin stated that requests can often take a long time to be fulfilled by foreign competent authorities, sometimes for several years. During this time, the investigation can be completed and the case sent to court. At the same time, according to him, the lack of a response does not prevent the judicial consideration of the case, but the right to compensation for damage remains unrealized.
As the chairman of the RF IC believes, if the response from the competent authorities comes after the criminal case has been considered by the court, then we need a mechanism that will allow us to determine the procedure for arresting property obtained by criminal means and transferred abroad.

“Currently, the mechanisms of international search and seizure of criminal assets are not sufficiently regulated in the criminal process. It would be possible to provide for a referral procedure the relevant authorized body of materials to the court to obtain a decision to arrest or confiscate him at the end of the investigation,” said Bastrykin.
