On January 3, the Estonian Security Police (KaPo) detained Vyacheslav Morozov, professor of political science at the University of Tartu, on suspicion of espionage. Postimees reports this with reference to the head of the intelligence service, Margot Pallosona.
Kristiina Tõnisson, who heads the Schütte Institute at the University of Tartu, where Morozov worked, confirmed his detention to Postimees and the Estonian National Broadcasting (ERR). She added that after this, the 51-year-old scientist, who had Russian citizenship, was fired.
Estonian authorities did not disclose the details of the accusation. It is only known that the Harju County Court, at the request of the prosecutor’s office, arrested him for two months.
According to Morozov’s Facebook pages and the Estonian scientific system ETIS, he worked at St. Petersburg University until 2010, and then began teaching at University of Tartu and specialized in Russian relations with the European Union.
