YAKUTSK, January 17 A criminal case about the torture of children was opened in Yakutia after an inspection at a republican special boarding school for the deaf, reports the press service of the Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia for region.
“»The investigative bodies of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), upon appeal to the investigative bodies and media reports, initiated a criminal case on the grounds of the crime provided for in paragraphs “a”, “d” of part 2 of article 117 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (torture obviously minors),” the press service said.
According to the investigation, from 2009 to 2017 and from 2022 to 2024, teachers and educators caused physical and mental suffering to students born in 2003 and 2011.
In July, the Investigative Committee began an investigation into abuse of disabled children at a boarding school. The Yakutsk Evening newspaper reported that in the only republican special (correctional) boarding school for deaf children in Yakutia, one of the teachers stood up for the students and recorded on video their complaints about systematic humiliation and insults from the teacher.
The Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic announced on Tuesday that after repeated publications in the media about the abuse of deaf children at a boarding school in Yakutia, law enforcement agencies began a new pre-investigation check.
