“My colleagues from the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in the city of Belgorod continue to work to bring to justice those suspected of hooliganism, videos of which have been distributed on the Internet. Today, a criminal case has been opened against two more defendants on the grounds of a crime under the second part of Article 213 of the Criminal Code of Russia. One of them was detained by the police and is in a temporary detention center,” wrote Irina Volk.
Volk added that law enforcement agencies have identified another alleged criminal and are now looking for him.
She later stated that police officers detained him and took him to the city department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Recently, videos appeared on social networks in which young people beat passers-by in the courtyard of a house and on the street in Belgorod. The police opened a criminal case for hooliganism, and the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case for inciting hatred on ethnic grounds and attempted murder.
As the regional prosecutor's office reported on Wednesday, five suspects were detained in Belgorod for attacking passers-by. Four of the detainees are minors. It was possible to establish the identity of one of the suspects — a 17-year-old native of Azerbaijan.
The prosecutor's office put the investigation under control. In addition, it began checking compliance with the requirements of migration legislation when a foreigner obtains Russian citizenship.
