It was assumed that the all-electric four-door of the Italian brand will be presented this year.
Maserati has been producing the Quattroporte sedan since 1963; over the past years, the model has changed generations five times. The current sixth generation appeared more than ten years ago, in 2013. Note that the peak year for this car was 2015, when 815 copies were sold in Europe. However, in the current decade the annual figure is only slightly more than one hundred. In 2022, it was reported that the company was developing the seventh generation Quattroporte.

At the same time, it was assumed that the new Quattroporte would only have an all-electric “filling”. However, Automotive News now reports that the Maserati brand, part of the extensive portfolio of the auto giant Stellantis, has decided to suspend development of the electric Quattroporte. It is noted that the company explained this by “concerns about the performance of the new model.”
However, sources from a number of Italian media outlets suggest that Stellantis as a whole is thinking about the need to soon launch an all-electric flagship Maserati sedan. As part of cost-cutting measures, the automaker has reportedly asked suppliers to cut parts prices by 6% (having already made a similar request last year).
It was previously assumed that the all-electric four-door of the Italian brand would be presented in 2024. According to the plan, in the European market such a model was supposed to compete for customers with the “Germans” Mercedes-Benz EQE and BMW i7.
By the way, Maserati previously had to postpone another of its “electric trains” – we are talking about the mid-size crossover Grecale Folgore, the start of production of which was postponed from 2023 to the end of this year. At the same time, the “green” GranTurismo coupe has already gone on sale and the development of the GranCabrio with the same technology continues (the debut of the convertible is scheduled for 2024). In addition, the complete “greening” of the brand will also affect the Levante crossover. It is expected that its range will expand with an all-electric version in the middle of this decade.

According to preliminary data , the electric Maserati Quattroporte sedan will share technology with the GranTurismo Folgore coupe. The two-door is equipped with a three-motor power plant, with one electric motor located on the front axle and two more on the rear axle. The total output of the coupe is 761 hp, and the maximum torque is 1350 Nm. The system also includes traction battery units with a total capacity of 92.5 kWh (of which 83 kWh is useful). This GranTurismo takes 2.7 seconds to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h, and its top speed is 320 km/h.
There are likely delays in the development and production of “electric trains” of brands owned by Stellantis are associated not only with high costs, but also with low demand for electric vehicles. Earlier, in connection with this, the auto giant, in particular, decided to pause the Mirafiori plant in Italy.
