MOSCOW, January 20. The Armed Forces of Ukraine will have to retreat deep into the territory controlled by Kiev to reduce the front line, Ukrainian politician Igor Lapin said in an interview with the YouTube channel “News Factory.”
““Going into strategic defense requires prepared positions. We don’t have them. Well. What, are we going to continue digging with shovels? <…> A static front in the absence of an advantage in artillery will give the Russians the opportunity to dismantle into molecules our dugouts, our fortified areas, which the guys are building on their own. Because, we understand that no dugout can withstand direct hit if it is not concrete and does not have 10-12 rows of flooring made of logs and earth,” argues Lapin.
According to him, in order to build more reliable fortifications and reduce the front line of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, it is necessary to retreat deeper into its territory and build defensive lines using special equipment, and not manually.
In December last year, the American newspaper Washington Post reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine do not have enough artillery shells, which is why some units are even forced to cancel planned offensives. At the same time, on the Russian side they do not notice such a shortage. According to the publication, the shortage of ammunition increases the already palpable anxiety in Kyiv, as American and European aid is delayed.
