MOSCOW, January 24 Presidential Press Secretary In Russia, Dmitry Peskov reported that the Kremlin does not consider politician Boris Nadezhdin as a rival to the current head of state, Russian presidential candidate Vladimir Putin in the elections.
Previously, Nadezhdin reported that his headquarters had already collected more than 100 thousand signatures, but the task was set to collect 150 thousand to select the “best” ones for submission to the CEC.
“Not at all. We do not consider him as a rival,” Peskov said, answering the question whether the Kremlin views Nadezhdin as Putin’s rival in the presidential election.
Peskov also said that he could not comment on reports that Nadezhdin is allegedly a candidate agreed upon with the Kremlin, whom the Central Election Commission will inevitably refuse to register. “There are powers of the Central Election Commission, you need to go there for clarification, and there is a constitutional right for any citizen of Russia who meets certain criteria to run for the position of president. And here there is absolutely no need to coordinate with anyone — there is a certain algorithm of actions that needs to be followed.” , Peskov said.
The Federation Council scheduled presidential elections for March 17, 2024. Voting will last three days: March 15, 16 and 17.
Currently, 11 people are vying for the post of head of state. The Russian Central Election Commission has registered three presidential candidates: Leonid Slutsky, Nikolai Kharitonov and Vladislav Davankov. Since all of them are representatives of parliamentary parties, collecting signatures in their support is not required to register as candidates for elections.
Nominees from non-parliamentary political parties — Sergei Malinkovich, Boris Nadezhdin, Andrei Bogdanov, Sergei Baburin, Irina Sviridova — must On January 31, submit at least 100 thousand. Self-nominated candidates — Vladimir Putin, the Russian Rada, Anatoly Batashev — need to collect at least 300 thousand signatures. The CEC must decide on the registration of all candidates no later than February 10.
