The Basmanny District Court of Moscow chose in absentia a preventive measure in the form of arrest for former lawyer Mark Feigin, who was put on the wanted list back in October. This follows from the card on the court’s website.
The card indicates that Feigin is accused of distributing military “fakes” based on political hatred (clause “e” of Part 2 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code). What exactly became the reason for the case is still unknown.
In April 2022, Feigin was recognized as a “foreign agent.” Later, Feigin was brought to administrative responsibility for failure to fulfill duties related to his status. The lawyer has repeatedly spoken out about the war on his YouTube channel and other platforms. A court in Moscow fined Twitch for refusing to remove materials about the war, including one of the broadcasts of Feigin and ex-adviser to the President of Ukraine Alexei Arestovich.
Last spring, the Prosecutor General's Office recognized Ilya Ponomarev's Congress of People's Deputies as an “undesirable organization.” As stated in the department's press release, Feigin was one of the organizers of the event. Already in October 2023, the Ministry of Internal Affairs put the lawyer on the wanted list.
As a lawyer, Feigin acted in many high-profile cases — in particular, he defended members of the Pussy Riot group, Ukrainian pilot Nadezhda Savchenko and the former head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatars Mustafa Dzhemilev. In 2018, he was stripped of his lawyer status.
