The Kirovsky District Court of Ufa sent Ilyas Bayguskarov, an activist from Ufa, who participated in protests in support of environmental activist Fail Alsynov, to a pre-trial detention center until March 17. This was reported in a telegram channel collecting help for Baiguskarov, OVD-Info drew attention.
The fact that Bayguskarov became a defendant in the case of mass riots near the court in Baymak became known on January 20.
“Ilyas is accused of participating in the riots, which Peskov commented not as riots, but as “individual manifestations.” I wonder how the riot clause could be applied if it was not even a protest, but simply support for a public figure. There were a lot of provocateurs in Baymak,” Bayguskarov’s brother Ilgiz told Mediazona. He also posted a video of Ilyas calming protesters.
In Baiguskarov’s support group, which is led by his brother, it was reported that Ilyas is accused under Part 2 of Article 212 of the Criminal Code — participation in mass riots, under which he faces up to eight years in prison.
Bayguskarov was detained in Baymak on January 17, but was later released. On the night of January 18, he was detained again in Ufa. On January 22, the man was arrested for seven days under a protocol on organizing an unapproved rally (Part 2 of Article 20.2 of the Administrative Code). The reason for this was the announcement of the court hearing in the Alsynov case, which took place on January 15. Then hundreds of people came to the court in Baymak to support the activist.
Two days later, on January 17, Alsynov was sentenced to four years in prison for inciting hatred and enmity due to speeches against plans to start gold mining in the republic (Part 1 of Article 282 of the Criminal Code). On this day, the residents of Bashkortostan again came to court. Security forces used tear gas and stun grenades on them. In response, snowballs were thrown at the police.
After the arrests of Alsynov’s supporters, the courts of the republic received more than a hundred reports of “disobedience” to the police, and the Investigative Committee opened a case of mass riots (parts 1 and 2 of Article 212 of the Criminal Code) and the use of violence in relation to security forces (part 1 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code).
Azat Mirzin, Dayan Valeev, Vilyur Karachurin, Rayat Davletbaev, Dima Davletkildin and at least four other people have already been sent to the pre-trial detention center. In the city of Salavat, after a search, 60-year-old Bashkir activist Alfinur Rakhmatullina was detained on charges of participating in mass riots.
