MOSCOW, Jan 26 US intelligence wants to start using artificial intelligence (AI) to gain an advantage over US adversaries, including China, but the technology must be reliable enough not to reveal American secret data, reports Bloomberg.
«»American spies want to use AI as a tool against China if the technology can be trusted,» the agency said.
One unit of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence is reportedly trying to tap companies and colleges to help adapt fast-developing AI technologies to give the United States an advantage over adversaries such as China. The challenge is ensuring that the use of AI «does not open a backdoor to national top-secret data or create fake data.»
«The intelligence community wants to benefit from large language models outside (the country), but there are a lot of unknowns… The ultimate goal is to be able to work with the model and trust it,» the agency quoted data scientist Tim McKinnon, who runs one of the projects of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence of the United States, known as Bengal. However, he did not say whether the division works with any specific companies.
CIA Chief Technology Officer Nand Mulchandani believes that AI, among other things, could be a way to compete with China's numerical advantage in intelligence staffing.
In September, Bloomberg reported that US intelligence agencies are developing a program to obtain and analyze intelligence data similar to the artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT.
