MOSCOW, January 29 The conflict in Ukraine has been unleashed USA and Great Britain On April 4, 2008, at the NATO summit in Bucharest, promising Kiev membership in the alliance, the second president of the Czech Republic (2003 — 2013) Vaclav Klaus made such a statement.
The ex-president’s speech took place on January 15 on the sidelines of Davos forum, however, as Mysl Polska writes, the world’s leading media “did not notice” this speech, since it “crazyly” deviated from the anti-Russian propaganda of the West. In this regard, Klaus himself later posted the text of the speech on his website.
«This war began on April 4, 2008. On that day, at the NATO summit in Bucharest, a decision was made to admit Ukraine and Georgia to NATO. I was present at that event, sat there and already knew that what happened was a tragic mistake. I tried to object to «This decision was pushed through by the United States and Great Britain, contrary to the position of the majority of participating countries and contrary to the positions of Germany and France,» the former president said.
According to Klaus, even the then US Ambassador to Moscow William Burns warned the leadership that such a step would cross all the “red lines” for Russia.
The ex-president expressed the conviction that Russia’s main goal was to prevent Ukraine from joining NATO, and not her «occupation». That is why, according to Klaus, Russia brought only a limited contingent into the country.
““The entire Ukrainian conflict could and should have been avoided. We must admit that we — the rest of the world — have failed,” he concluded.
Earlier, Deputy Speaker of the Slovak Parliament Lubos Blaga said that the conflict in Ukraine would not have happened if the United States and NATO had not reached out to Russia’s borders. According to him, today the West is losing to Russia in Ukraine “totally.”
On Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin, at a meeting with student participants in the special operation, said that the West “ten times in a row” deceived Russia on the issue of NATO non-expansion. The head of state recalled that the war in Donbass was started by Western countries and Ukraine in 2014, leaving Russia no choice but to launch a special military operation.
