At the moment, the youngest crossover in the Hyundai range, Casper, is available only in its homeland, South Korea, and only with gasoline engines , but by the end of this year an electric version will appear, designed with an eye to the low-cost segment of the European market.
Hyundai Casper debuted in the fall of 2021 — this is the smallest crossover in the range of the South Korean Korean brand, its overall length is only 3595 mm, width — 1595 mm, height — 1575 mm, wheelbase — 2400 mm. Despite its small size and low price (from 13,850,000 won or 925,000 rubles in translation at the current exchange rate), Casper is quite richly equipped with active and passive safety systems, but its engines are modest — a gasoline “liter” with a capacity of 76 or 100 hp, and only front-wheel drive.

In its homeland, Casper has become very popular: last year its sales in South Korea, according to Hyundai itself, amounted to 45,451 units. — this is more than the result of the Hyundai Kona crossover (34,707 units), which is offered simultaneously with hydrocarbon, hybrid and electric powertrains. Also left behind are the subcompact SUV Hyundai Venue (8,281 units) and the compact Tucson (43,744 units).

Towards the end of this year, the Hyundai Casper will debut in Europe as an electric car, Lionel French Keogh, general director of the regional division of Hyundai Motor France, told the French magazine Auto Moto. Camouflaged prototypes of the electric Casper were recently spotted in Japan, their pictures were published by the Spanish magazine motor.es: the electric version has a different design of headlights and front end as a whole compared to the gasoline version, and the sides and rear seem to be the same as the gasoline versions.

The battery-powered Casper in the basic configuration will cost about 20,000 euros, that is it is aimed at fighting such budget electric cars as the Citroen e-C3 and Dacia Spring. Moreover, in order to receive government subsidies, production of the electric Casper will most likely be localized in Europe at the Hyundai plant in Nošovice (Czech Republic), where the i30, Tucson and Kona Electric models are currently produced. It is still unknown whether the electric Casper will have a clone under the Kia brand.
