The Borzinsky garrison military court in the Trans-Baikal Territory sentenced serviceman Ivan Egunov to six years in a general regime colony, the press service of the 2nd Eastern District Military Court reported.
Judge Artem Suslov found Egunov guilty in the case of unauthorized abandonment of a unit during the period of mobilization (Part 5 of Article 337 of the Criminal Code). On March 7, 2023, the serviceman did not return to the military unit after treatment. On August 18, he was detained by military police.
The case file indicates that Egunov was sentenced on January 25; the text of the decision was not published on the court’s website.
It was reported the day before that the same court sentenced serviceman Sergei Zolotarev to five and a half years in a general regime colony, who, “wanting a break from performing his official duties,” did not return to duty in December 2022 after being discharged from the hospital. Zolotarev was detained seven months later.
In addition, in January the Borzinsky Garrison Court sent military man Ilya Butenko to a settlement colony for two years on a case of failure to comply with an order during the period of mobilization (Part 2.1 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code). Butenko verbally and then in writing refused to go to the war in Ukraine and participate in hostilities, the case file says.
