The Japanese manufacturer reported on car sales on the global market: the Volkswagen concern was again in second place, and Hyundai Motor closed the top three.
Toyota Corporation has calculated how many cars produced under its brands were sold in 2023 on the global market. In total, from January to December, dealers around the world sold 11,233,039 units, which is 7.2% more than in 2022. Of these, the combined sales of Toyota and Lexus cars accounted for 10,307,395 units, which is 7.7% higher than the previous year. The manufacturer noted that the results are a record for the last ten years.

The sales result of the Japanese corporation allowed Toyota Motor to again (for the fourth year in a row) take first place in the number of cars sold in the global car market. In second place is the German concern Volkswagen, whose sales volume amounted to 9.24 million vehicles, and the top three is completed by the Korean group Hyundai Motor, whose dealers sold 7.32 million units worldwide.
According to a report published on the official website of the corporation, the total figure for Toyota and Lexus increased noticeably in the home market: 1,672,970 units were sold here last year, which is almost 30% more than in 2022. The increase in total sales in other countries (8,634,425 units) was 4.3%.

The global figure for the Toyota-owned Hino brand in 2023 was 135,203 units, which is almost 10% less than a year earlier. And Daihatsu’s result in the global market for the same period was 790,441 units. (3.2% more).
Let us remind you that Daihatsu is now at the center of a scandal: last year the company was accused of falsifying crash test data and a number of other violations. This affected dozens of models, including Toyota Pixis, Probox, Roomy and TownAce vans. As a result, the Japanese concern had to suspend deliveries of cars both on the domestic market and abroad.

The Japanese corporation also had record-breaking global car production volumes: a total of 11,518,303 cars rolled off production lines last year (8.6% more than in 2022). Of these, Toyota and Lexus models account for 10,033,171 units. (11% more), on Hino – 159,302 units. (9% less), and for Daihatsu – 1,325,830 units. (6% less).
The other day it became known that Toyota decided to suspend deliveries of several more models due to problems with certification tests of diesel engines of the 1GD, 2GD and F33A series. The following «temporary ban» included: Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, Toyota Land Cruiser 300, Toyota Hilux (both the version for the domestic market and the global version), Toyota Fortuner, the Toyota Innova minivan sold in Asian countries, as well as the Lexus LX 500d and commercial vehicles cars – Toyota Dyna/Hino Dutro and Toyota Hiace/GranAce.
