MOSCOW, February 1 The Kremlin is aware of the situation with the accounts of Russian companies in Turkey, presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
“We are in a state of active dialogue with our Turkish partners and colleagues, discussing these problems,” he said.
According to the press secretary, the problems are caused by completely unprecedented, undisguised and aggressive pressure that US representatives are putting on Turkey and Turkish companies, including financial ones.
Now Moscow and Ankara are looking for an acceptable way out of this situation, Peskov added.
“We are in dialogue. Actually, there is an understanding that such pressure should not interfere with the development of our cooperation, our bilateral relations, which meets the interests of the peoples of the two countries,” he concluded.
Recently, some Turkish banks have begun to close accounts of Russian companies and have tightened requirements for individuals from Russia intending to get a card. According to the Vedomosti newspaper, this has been happening since 2022, but then we were talking about organizations that were subject to sanctions, and now relations with other companies are being terminated.
As the Ekonomim newspaper wrote, since January 1, Turkish exporters have faced refusals of banks to accept money transfers from Russia. The Turkish Ministry of Trade took up the issue. A banking source in Ankara said the problem was partly due to pressure on Turkey over Western sanctions, although the banking sector had not received any evidence that the Turkish side was helping to circumvent those measures.
The Turkish authorities have repeatedly stated that they will not join sanctions against Russia, but will not allow them to be circumvented. As President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, Ankara will do what it wants, and not what the West demands.
