CAIRO, Feb. 6 Sudanese military intelligence detained several officers accused of preparing a coup, the Al Sudani newspaper reported, citing sources.
The detainees serve in the operational department in the city of Omdurman. It is noted that among the accused are a colonel, a lieutenant colonel and a major.
Sources added that the arrest of an unnamed general of the Sudanese army is being prepared.
Since April 15, 2023, fighting has been going on in Sudan between the Rapid Forces response under the command of Mohammed Hamdan Daglo and the regular army. The parties exchange conflicting statements regarding successes in combat operations and control over objects, launching a large-scale information war in the media and social networks.
According to the UN International Organization for Migration, more than 10.7 million people have been displaced as a result of the conflict in Sudan in less than for the year, including nine million people within the country and 1.7 million people in neighboring countries.
