Takhirjon Bakiyev, who three years ago was tortured by convicts who helped the colony administration, died in Irkutsk Correctional Colony No. 6. Information about his death was confirmed by Sibir. Realities» sister of the convicted person Nargiz Bakiyeva.
The day before, the human rights project “Refueling 38” reported that Bakiyev committed suicide. The authors of the telegram channel allegedly attached to the publication Bakiyev’s last letter, which ends with the words “Please help, I can’t cope on my own. I don’t want to die here with the wording that I am.”
Bakiyev’s sister reported “Siberia. Realii» that today FSIN employees called her and asked her to «come and pick up the body.»
In 2019, Tuvan Takhirzhon Bakiev was sentenced to seven years in prison for weapons theft. In October 2021, he was transferred from Angarsk IK-15, where the riot occurred, to Irkutsk IK-6.
As the human rights project Gulagu.net reported, in Irkutsk “convicted developers” began to “insult the Muslim Bakiyev and tore up the Koran.” Because of this, in January the convict turned to the administration of the penal colony and was subsequently subjected to torture. Gulagu.net reported that six other prisoners beat Bakiyev with a wooden board and shoved a mop into his anus, “tearing his intestines.” After that, they kept Bakiyev under bunks for two days.
“While I was lying tied and crippled, one took my photo album, pulled out photographs of my family, laughed, tore them and threw them in my face. Another took out the Koran and began to hit me on the head with it and said: “Pray to your Allah, Muslim,” recalled Bakiyev.
In 2023, the court in Irkutsk appointed Alexei Agapov, Alexander Mednikov and Anton as employees of the Federal Penitentiary Service Erokhin to five years in prison in the case of abuse of power (points “a”, “c” of part 3 of article 286 of the Criminal Code). According to the verdict, all three knew about what was happening in the colony and did nothing. Human rights activists insist that the security forces themselves initiated the torture.
The prisoners who tortured Bakiyev have not yet been sentenced. One of the witnesses in the case is former prisoner Alexander Bunkin — as Gulagu.net claimed, he was involved in the torture of a Tuvan. At the end of last year it became known that Bunkin refused to testify against IK officers under pressure from the Federal Penitentiary Service.
