The list of premieres of the German brand will definitely include a small pickup truck, and a budget SUV is also expected. But the open version of the VW Virtus sedan has already been sent to the museum.
The Volkswagen concern announced additional investments in its Brazilian sites (their products are also supplied to other countries in South America), while simultaneously announcing a whole bunch of new products. In addition, the local division of the company demonstrated a one-piece convertible, but more on that below. In the meantime, numbers and upcoming premieres.
So, the previous investment program is designed for the period from 2022 to 2026, it provides for the injection of 7 billion reais (about $1.4 billion at the current exchange rate) into factories located in Brazil (Volkswagen has four of them there). Now, another 9 billion reais (approximately $1.8 billion) have been added to this amount, and the program has been extended until 2028. It is stated that within four years, Volkswagen will establish production of four new models in this country, and will also launch a new MQB Hybrid platform for hybrids and a new engine, again for electrified cars. In total, by 2028, the Brazilian division of the concern will present 16 new products, including electric cars: apparently, the list will include restylings and models that are already sold in other countries.
As for completely new Brazilian-made cars, the brand itself has so far revealed only one of them: it will be an “unprecedented” pickup truck (but not the Amarok — this truck will still be assembled in neighboring Argentina, and we are talking about a modernized model of the previous generation). Local specialized media write that Volkswagen will release a small truck with a monocoque body and a two-row cabin; it will be made based on the VW Tarok concept, which debuted back in 2018. By the way, it is believed that the brand initially planned to bring that show car to series, but the pandemic prevented it. The commercial pickup truck may turn out to be the brother of the VW Taos crossover.

Brazilian media also own some -what information about another new product. According to them, VW is preparing an inexpensive SUV, and dealers have allegedly already been shown a conceptual version called Yeh. It is assumed that the cross will have an unusual design, in addition, the model will receive a hybrid version.
Well, now about the convertible mentioned above: the Brazilian-made Volkswagen Virtus sedan lost its roof. Let us remind you that the four-door has been in service since 2017; it was initially announced as a model designed specifically for Latin America, but then Virtus became global (in particular, assembly is also established in India). So, the VW Virtus Cabrio was created in a single copy; the brand has no plans to put an open version on the assembly line.

The fact is that the announcement of new investments was made at one of the Volkswagen factories, where Brazilian President Lula da Silva was personally present. And it was precisely for his visit that the convertible was prepared: the head of state drove around the enterprise in a Virtus Cabrio. By the way, this is already the fifth project of the company built specifically for the presidential visit. Thus, in 1959 and 1993, open modifications appeared on the then local VW Fusca/Beetle, in 2003 on the Polo sedan, and in 2005 on the Fox hatch.
It is reported that the body of the special Virtus was strengthened, the interior became more spacious, and in addition, the convertible received new rear seats. A horizontal handrail was installed behind the front seats so that you could ride in the car while standing. The engine moved from the standard sedan is a 1.4 TSI turbo-four (150 hp), which is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. After the ceremony, the VW Virtus Cabrio was sent to the factory museum.
