MOSCOW, February 7 Former Deputy Minister of National Defense of Poland, General Waldemar Skrzypczak called the Kaliningrad region «occupied territory» and threatened its liquidation in the event of a conflict between Russia and NATO, his words are quoted by the publication Rzeczpospolita.
«In the event of a conflict between NATO and Russia, the future for the Koenigsberg (Kaliningrad. — Ed. note) .) region will be the liquidation of this territory occupied by Russia,” he said.
According to Skrzypczak, if a conflict breaks out, the alliance “will not allow” Russia to rule the region and keep its troops there.
< br>The general also noted that Poland is now engaged in the construction of fortifications in the border zone with Russia and Belarus. Work on preparing “defensive belts,” he said, is carried out in peacetime, since during a conflict there will be no time to do this.
The day before, Polish Minister of National Defense Wladislaw Kosiniak-Kamysh told reporters that he does not exclude the possibility of war with Russia in future and called for being prepared for “any scenario.”
Russia has repeatedly emphasized that it does not pose a threat to any of the NATO countries, but will not ignore actions that are potentially dangerous to its interests. At the same time, it remains open to dialogue, but on an equal basis, and the West must abandon its course towards the militarization of the continent.
