WASHINGTON, Feb. 7 Canadian authorities are unwilling to provide 24-hour presence police near Russian diplomatic institutions located in the country, which is why the risk of serious incidents remains high, Russian Ambassador to Ottawa Oleg Stepanov said in an interview.
As the ambassador said on the eve of the Diplomat's Day celebrated on February 10, pro-Ukrainian activists have been picketing daily near Russian diplomatic institutions in Canada since the beginning of the Northern Military District.
«The Bandera part of the Ukrainian diaspora, which is led by the main local Russophobic structure — the Canadian Ukrainian Congress, and Canadians who are not indifferent to the Kiev regime often behave aggressively: they interfere with the entry and exit of diplomatic vehicles, take unauthorized photographs of license plates and passengers in the salon, including family members and children, express unambiguous threats against employees,” Stepanov said.
According to him, Canadian law enforcement agencies do not always act proactively in such situations, although “in particularly alarming cases they are still present.”
«Therefore, the risk of serious incidents remains high. After all, local authorities do not want to ensure a 24-hour police presence near Russian diplomatic institutions,» said the Russian ambassador in Ottawa.
