The Nissan Frontier, which is losing customers, now has an off-road Forsberg Edition

The premiere of the Nissan Frontier Forsberg Edition is timed to coincide with the Chicago Auto Show, which opens on February 8. A new special version of the pickup truck was developed by Nissan together with the Forsberg Racing racing team and will be produced in limited edition.

The American mid-size pickup truck Nissan Frontier entered its third generation in 2021, but, unfortunately, did not live up to the expectations placed on it and is selling worse than its predecessor. In 2023, the Nissan Frontier sold 58,135 units in the United States, which is 23.7% less than sales in 2022. For comparison, Toyota Tacoma sales last year in the United States were 234,768 units. (-0.8%), Ford Maverick — 94,058 units. (+26.5%), Chevrolet Colorado — 71,081 units. (-20.3%), Jeep Gladiator — 55,188 units. (-29%), Honda Ridgeline — 52,001 units. (+22%), Ford Ranger — 32,334 units. (-43.3%). Meanwhile, sales of the second-generation Nissan Frontier in the United States peaked in 2016, when 86,926 copies of this model were sold.

Nissan is trying to stir up customer interest in the Frontier with the help of various special versions: for example, last fall the pickup truck acquired a nostalgic Hardbody livery. That same fall, American racer Chris Forsberg won the NORRA 500 desert race in Mexico using a specially prepared Frontier pickup truck (more precisely, he took first place in his Evolution 7100 class), and following this success, it was decided to prepare a production version of the racing pickup truck. The press release, however, did not mention one piquant circumstance: except for Chris Forsberg in Nissan, no other cars in the Evolution 7100 class were entered in that race…
