VOLGOGRAD, February 9 A court in Volgograd arrested until March 10 a resident of Samara, who published a video on social networks six months ago, where she “touches” the chest of the sculpture “The Motherland is Calling!” on Mamayev Kurgan, reports the press service of the RF SUK in the Volgograd region.
“The Central District Court of the city of Volgograd granted the request of the investigators of the Investigative Committee of Russia to select a preventive measure in the form of detention for the accused of rehabilitating Nazism,” the Investigative Committee said in a statement.
It is noted that the girl was arrested until March 10.
In July, a criminal case was opened against a 23-year-old resident of Samara for desecration of burial sites after publishing a video on social networks, which the girl filmed from such an angle as if she was reaching with her hands to the chest of the monument “The Motherland is Calling!” and touches it with his finger, while humming a cheerful melody. According to the prosecutor's office, the defendant committed “cynical actions that disregarded the norms of morality and morality” on Mamayev Kurgan.
According to the Investigative Committee, after the initiation of the case, the girl hid from the investigation, leaving the country, she was put on the wanted list, and on February 8 she was detained at the Moscow airport and taken to Volgograd. According to the department, she has now been charged under the article “rehabilitation of Nazism” for “immoral and cynical actions that insult the symbol of the steadfastness of the Soviet people during the Great Patriotic War.” The girl faces up to five years in prison.
