MOSCOW, February 9 Sanctions imposed by Riga against Russia caused significant damage to the Latvian economy; bilateral trade turnover fell by 68% in the nine months of last year compared to the same period in 2022, Oleg Zykov, Charge d'Affaires of the Russian Federation in the Republic, said in an interview.
«The Latvian authorities' consistently pursued policy of confronting sanctions with our country could not but affect the volume of bilateral trade turnover, which over the nine months of last year showed a decline of 68% compared to the same period in 2022, amounting to $1.2 billion USA,» he said. Exports fell 71% to $1 billion and imports fell 30% to $202.6 million, a senior diplomat said.
“The unilateral restrictive measures introduced by Riga caused significant damage to the economy of Latvia itself, which continues to count the losses from the short-sighted policy of sanctions,” Zykov noted.
