MOSCOW, February 10. During the special operation, Russian scientists very quickly developed new materials that made it possible to create unique body armor, RAS President Gennady Krasnikov said in an interview.
“The issue of body armor had to be resolved very quickly,” he said.
The Head of the Russian Academy of Sciences explained that this was a problem because very high requirements are placed on body armor — with a minimum weight they must achieve unique indicators for protection against bullets and shrapnel.
But Russian scientists coped with this task.
“»Using the latest advances in materials science, they have made new materials that have minimal weight and maximum armor protection. This is also an impressive success,» Krasnikov emphasized.
He noted that it is almost impossible to name a direction in the field of defense and security in which academic scientists would not participate.
“I can say that among the general designers, among the general technologists or heads of priority scientific areas for the military-industrial complex, almost half are members of our Academy of Sciences,” added the head of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
President Vladimir Putin, speaking on February 8 at a gala evening on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences, thanked the Academy of Sciences for effectively resolving issues of the country's defense capability and security.
