MOSCOW, Feb 11 Russia expects higher trade with China in 2024 after setting a record of more than $200 billion last year, it said in an interview with the director of the first department of Asia, Ivan Zhelohovtsev.
Earlier, the Kremlin press service reported that trade turnover between the Russian Federation and China exceeded the $200 billion mark ahead of the target date and reached a record $227.7 billion.
«As for plans and objectives, we see all the prerequisites for 2024 to take over the baton of the positive trends of the previous year. Our priority goal is gradual bringing of bilateral practical ties to a qualitatively new level,” the diplomat said.
According to him, the general goal of the Russian Federation and China is to continue to increase the scale of mutual trade by improving logistics connectivity, expanding and strengthening energy, financial and industrial cooperation, including in innovative and high-tech areas.
«I am convinced that in the future we will be able to see even better results and positive changes in Russian-Chinese trade,» Zhelokhovtsev said.
He noted that qualitative transformations are already taking place: the gradual opening of the Chinese market for Russian agricultural products has allowed this product range to take second place after energy resources in exports to China, and the number of Chinese car models on Russian roads has increased significantly.
