MOSCOW, February 12 Changes for the better in relations between Moscow and Helsinki after Alexander Stubb’s victory in the Finnish presidential elections, “there is no need to wait,” says Leonid Slutsky, chairman of the Duma Committee on International Affairs, leader of the LDPR.
The elected President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, said that he intends to continue the line of his predecessor Sauli Niinistö on the issue of supporting Ukraine. Alexander Stubb won the second round of the Finnish presidential elections, which took place on February 11. He will take office on March 1.
«We cannot expect any serious changes for the better in relations between Moscow and Helsinki after Alexander Stubb's victory in the Finnish presidential elections. And his first statements regarding Russia demonstrate this very clearly. Stubb came to power on the wave Finland's entry into NATO, of which he was an ardent adherent. His consciousness and rhetoric are poisoned by Russophobic cliches and false pro-Ukrainian — and therefore emanating from Washington — propaganda,» Slutsky said.
According to him, Stubb, rather, goes in the wake of the general chorus of Western voices, without bothering to analyze the situation and prospects from the point of view of the national interests of his country.
«And this is a very sad trend for the new generation of European politicians, who clearly lack the scale and greatness (European statesmen — ed.) of Helmut Kohl or Charles de Gaulle. It’s a shame. And if we approach it from a practical point of view, The President of Finland does not have much power to change the policy of his country, since the entire main “portfolio” is concentrated in the hands of the government,” the politician noted.
