DONETSK, February 12 Since the beginning of the day, Ukrainian troops have fired fifteen 155-mm shells at Gorlovka and the Yasinovatsky district of the DPR, the DPR representative office in the Joint center for control and coordination of issues related to war crimes in Ukraine.
“After 00:00, shelling was recorded from the armed formations of Ukraine in the direction: 00:00 (coincides with Moscow time) – the settlement of Dzerzhinsk – the settlement of Gorlovka (Nikitovsky district): 3 shells of 155 mm caliber were fired,” the department said in a statement.
It is noted that from 3.35 to 7.10 another eight of the same shells were fired at the specified area of Gorlovka and four shells were fired at the Yasinovatsky district.
Gorlovka is located 50 kilometers north of Donetsk, the city is home to the Stirol chemical concern and coal mining enterprises. This is one of the largest populated areas of the DPR; before the start of the conflict in Donbass, the population of Gorlovka numbered more than 250 thousand people.
155 mm artillery is used by NATO countries. The United States supplied Ukraine with long-range howitzers M777 of 155 mm caliber, Ukrainian troops are actively using them to shell the cities of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics. Also, the Ukrainian troops were supplied with German PzH 2000 self-propelled artillery mounts, Polish Krab self-propelled guns and French CAESAR self-propelled guns using shells of this caliber.
