MOSCOW, February 14 Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law according to which categories of cases on recognition of materials as extremist will fall under the jurisdiction of the supreme courts of the constituent entities of Russia.
The corresponding document is posted on the website of the official publication of legal acts.
«The law is aimed at improving legislation that will facilitate the objective and impartial consideration of cases on recognition of information materials as extremist. For these purposes, amendments are being made to the Code of Administrative Procedure of the Russian Federation and the Federal Law «On Combating Extremist Activities», according to which: categories of cases on recognizing materials as extremist will fall under the jurisdiction of the courts of a constituent entity of the Russian Federation,” said Artem Sheikin, a member of the constitutional committee of the Federation Council.
The senator also noted that when considering cases of this category, the court will involve the participation in the case of copyright holders, authors of works or translations, and if the claim is filed “on recognizing the materials of a religious publication as extremist, then also representatives of centralized religious organizations and specialists in the relevant religion.»
According to the previous edition of the Code of Administrative Proceedings, the jurisdiction of the supreme courts of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation includes cases related to state secrets, suspension of the activities of divisions of political parties or public organizations, cancellation of registration of a candidate for State Duma deputy nominated in a single-mandate electoral district, and others.
