The volume of foreign currency held by Russians exceeded 8.7 trillion rubles
8.72 trillion rubles amounted to the volume of foreign cash held by households in Russia at the beginning of 2024. The Central Bank reported this, noting that the increase in the indicator over the past year was significantly less than a year earlier.
According to the regulator, the increase in cash foreign currency for 2023 amounted to 1.4 trillion rubles, which is 2.2 times lower than in 2022 — 3.2 trillion.
The Bank of Russia added that in December, “in accordance with seasonal patterns,” ruble cash of citizens increased, but the growth rate was less than the same indicator for previous periods. Experts associated this with the transition of funds from “cash” to time deposits due to an increase in bank rates, including on deposits.
According to the Central Bank, the increase in funds of Russians on deposits in non-resident banks amounted to 87 .9 billion rubles.
Earlier, the President of the Russian Federation said that over the ten months of 2023, wages in Russia increased by 7.7% in real terms. According to Putin, this figure is a good result.
